viaduc d'Arveyres
The viaduct of Arveyres, also known as Viaduc des Cent-Arches, is a railway viaduct located in the municipality of Arveyres (Gironde), near Libourne, France. This viaduct allows the railway line to cross the depression formed by the former Marshes d'Arveyres, at the 550+433 kilometer point of the Paris-Austerlitz line at Bordeaux-Saint-Jean. At the time of its construction, between 1848 and 1850, the viaduct was one of the longest bridges in France, with a length of 1,186 metres.
340 workers worked on this work. The viaduct has exactly 100 arches, hence its name "Viaduc des Cent-Arches". It has been built in medium-grade limestone, which has required frequent interventions to consolidate the structure since the beginning of the 20th century.
Since 2000, the viaduct is itself crossed by the Barrails viaduct of the A89 motorway.
