Saint-Andoche de Saulieu Basilica is a Romanesque church located in Saulieu, in the Côte-d'Or department (Burgogne-Franche-Comté). It was built from the end of the 11th century on a clunisian plane.
Premises of the present basilica: The current basilica has been built on the ruins of other earlier religious buildings located on the probable place of conservation of the relics of three Christian martyrs of the second century, Andoche de Saulieu, Thyrsus d'Autun and Felix de Saulieu. Companion of Saint Bénigne de Dijon and disciple of Saint Polycarp de Smyrna, Andoche was allegedly killed with his companions in 177 by the Romans, on the road to Saulieu (Sedelocus), the date on which the Roman emperor Mark Aurèle stopped in the city. Faustus, accompanied by his son Symphorian, reportedly sheltered their bodies in a marble sarcophagus of Carrara, and then secretly buried them in the crypt of Saint Andoche.
