Gate
portes du Temple de Médamoud
These two monumental gates come from an Egyptian temple of Ptolemaic period: the temple of Montou, located in Medamoud, north of Luxor, on the right bank of the Nile. They are the nail of the Egyptian collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. The oldest, the partially preserved door of Ptolemy III, still has remains of polychromy.
The scenes of the bas-reliefs suggest that it marked the entrance to an offering room inside the temple. The most recent door built under Ptolemy IV could be completely reconstructed. This is probably one of the main entrances to the temple.
Some details show that the door remained unfinished.
