The Nelson-Mandela Bridge, or Décines Bridge, is a 140-metre-long "soft mode" bridge that crosses the Jonage Canal at Décines-Charpieu and provides quick access to the Grand Parc de Miribel-Jonage. Designed as part of the Blue Ring development project, it was inaugurated in October 2013.
The bridge was built in the immediate vicinity of the 1896 "bridge de Décines" road bridge. It is located near the Grand Large and the Grand Parc de Miribel-Jonage.
The architects of the bridge are Christophe Cheron and Thomas Lavigne. Work began in the fall of 2011 and was completed in early 2013. Prior to this, a preliminary consultation (May to June 2009) followed by a public inquiry (February to March 2010). The bridge is a suspended bridge with the rare feature of being supported by only one pillar (downstream), making an asymmetrical structure.
