chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Grâce d'Équemauville
Notre-Dame-de-Grâce Chapel is a Catholic chapel located in Equemauville, in the French department of Calvados in the Normandy region.
Location: The chapel is located in the commune of Equemauville, on the plateau of Grace overlooking Honfleur in front of the Seine estuary.
History: The Notre-Dame-de-Grâce chapel was built in 1600-1615 by the bourgeois and sailors of Honfleur at the site of an old chapel that disappeared in a rocking of the cliff. This early chapel was founded before the year 1023 by Richard II, then Duke of Normandy, to fulfill a vow made during a storm where he had almost perished. Since then, the cult of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce has continued. The building was classified as historical monuments in 1938.
Located on the heights overlooking the city of Honfleur, but on the territory of Equemauville, this building rebuilt following the collapse of the cliff houses ex-votos, models of boats and an organ made by the organ maker Dupont in 1990. Outside, you can see the bells of the pilgrimages.
