église Notre-Dame-de-Confort
The Church of Notre-Dame-de-Confort, also known as the Jacobin Church, is a former church in Lyon, France. Built in 1240-1243 and destroyed in 1816, it was located on the southern side of the present Jacobin square. The order of the Dominican preachers settled in Lyon in 1218 on the slopes of Fourvière and it was necessary to wait until 1235 for their installation in the Presquîle with the gift of the lands of their future convent by the Abbey of Ainay.
The construction of the church began in 1240: it was joined to a pre-existing chapel that became a "low church" and served as a vestibule for the new "great church". The sanctuary was joined by chapels in the 15th century and a new portal completed in 1674.
