The "Avesnes-sur-Helpe Communal Cemetery" cemetery is a First World War military cemetery located on the territory of the commune of Avesnes-sur-Helpe, North.

Location: This cemetery is located to the west of the city, rue de Cartigny, on the edge of the communal cemetery.

History: The city of Avesnes-sur Helpe was occupied by German troops at the end of August 1914 and remained far from the front for four years. During this period it was for some time the headquarters of the eighteenth German army. The Germans used and expanded the communal cemetery during their occupation. German soldiers, as well as French, Italian, Russian and British prisoners of war, were buried there. The German extension has now been abolished.

Character: The cemetery now contains 82 Commonwealth burials and commemorations of the First World War, four of which are unidentified. There are 103 French and five Russian burials of the First World War and 22 other burials of the Second World War; Most of them welcome airmen.
