The cupular block of La Guettaz, or La Gaittaz, is a cupular stone located in the commune of Billeème in the Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The stone has been classified as historic monuments since May 9, 1939.
Location: La pierre de La Guettaz is located in the French department of Savoie, in the commune of Billeème. Along with four other sites, it is part of the coupular blocks of Billeème, a series of cupstones distributed in circles around this village.
History: The site was searched in 1923 by Joseph Tournier, in 1937 by Anthelme Dubiez, in 1971 and 1972 by Lucien Lagier-Bruno, in 1983 by Bernard Quinet and in 1990 by Françoise Ballet and Philippe Raffaelli. The stone was classified as historical monuments on May 9, 1939.
Description: It is an erratic block, carved of cupulas dated from the Bronze Age. Its peak is 71. These are small concave depressions, circular or oval, a few centimetres in diameter, made by man.
