The crypts of Jouarre are mausoleums for the founders of Notre-Dame de Jouarre Abbey and their relatives, in the commune of Jouarre, in the Seine-et-Marne department. The crypt Saint Paul is a collective mausoleum for members of the founding family of the abbey, as well as Saint Osanne, while the crypt Saint-Ebrégasile was reserved for the remains of the saint eponymous, bishop of Meaux towards the end of the seventh century. The construction of crypts dates back to the seventh century, but they have undergone many changes and changes that make their reading difficult.
If the black marble columns come from older dismantled buildings, the capitals are partly merovingian, partly Romanesque, and the vaults are Romanesque. The first crypt, the largest, is to the north and has an entrance on the west side; the second crypt, half smaller, is contiguous to the south. Both spaces have been communicating with each other since 1640.
The crypt of Saint-Ebrégasile was open, to the west, on the cemeterial church Saint-Paul, which extended to the bedside of the parish church. Destroyed during the Hundred Years War, its last traces in elevation...
