About

The Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel is a chapel located in Lavilledieu, Ardèche.

History: The chapel was erected in the 16th century. According to Abbé Mollier, historian, its construction could be linked to the legend of the hermit Saint Trouvé, Sen Trouba in Occitan, traditionally implored by villadean villagers in ancient times to obtain the coming of rain in times of drought. It would have been the gathering place for the processions going to "the peiro de Sen Trouba", mythical tomb of the saint, in Bayssac. It was surely built in thanksgiving for a grace given by the Virgin to the inhabitants. Very small and more than modest originally, it was enlarged and rebuilt in 1870 by Abbé Rogier, parish priest of Lavilledieu, thanks to pious donations and the assistance of all his parishioners to whom this sanctuary has always been very expensive. Consolidated and restored in 1940 by Abbé Teraube, parish priest, the chapel was completely renovated in 1983 by the municipality.

The chapel contains a 19th century statue of the Virgin with the Child, made of carved and gilded wood, inscribed in historical monuments.
