Prehistoric necropolis
The Neolithic necropolis of Fleury-sur-Orne is an archaeological site of the Neolithic period located in Fleury-sur-Orne, south of Caen, Calvados, Normandy. Recognized by aerial archaeology, it was the subject of a preventive search in 2014 which revealed the presence of monumental burials dated 4500 B.C., making it a unique site in the region but also nationally. The site illustrates the monumentalism of Cerny's culture.
Of the 20 or so monuments identified, only one was in relatively good conservation status during the excavations, the others being identified by the traces left by the ditches around them. The site was rehabilitated after the excavation, to accommodate part of the new area of activity of Fleury-sur-Orne, accompanied by new housing.
