Marly Waterworks is a building located in and below Marly-le-Roi National Estate in Marly-le-Roi, Yvelines. Marly Waterworks was the only part of the estate classified as historical monuments in 1862. He was a favourite subject of the painter Alfred Sisley, whose paintings appearing in the waterworks are considered a series of masterpieces of Impressionism.
History: A first waterworks was built at this site in 1687 and expanded in 1698 to give its present form. In 1702, the sculptures of Mercury at Cheval sur Pegasus and La Renomée at Cheval sur Pegasus by Antoine Coysevox were installed at the southern angles of the basin. In 1745, at the request of Louis XV, Guillaume Coustou realized the Horses of Marly, in order to replace the Mercury and the Renamed which had been transferred to the Tuileries in 1719. These same marble horses are now replaced by replicas, and joined Coysevox's originals at the Louvre. The upper part of the waterworks was partially restored in 2005, but the water blades were not restored.
