About

The Church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assumption of Arques-la-Battle is a listed historical monument. It is located in the commune of Arques-la-Batille in Normandy, and assigned to the Catholic cult (parisse Arques-Val de Varenne, archdiocese of Rouen). "The building is a major milestone in the understanding of Normandy's last flamboyant gothic: by the coherence of the project, by the quality of its sculpted decoration, by the rarity of its liturgical installations, its stained glass windows and its ancient furniture, and by the importance of its largely unpublished written documentation." In terms of furniture, the church of Arques-la-Bataille fortunately remained almost free of the bad taste that has spoiled so many cult buildings during the 19th century. It is the main venue for the Bach Academy concerts, an ancient music festival whose premises are located in the former presbytery.
