History: The creation of the first Notre-Dame chapel is more or less legendary. In the 13th century, the seigneur of Lafaye de Chardeuil, having gone in the countryside, found himself about to sink in the Gulf of Gascony. He vowed, if he came out of this danger, to build a chapel in honor of the Virgin. Returning safely, he built a small chapel on the ark of the bridge crossing the Isle. It was five feet wide by three feet long. Strong floods after the middle of the 15th century carried part of the bridge with the chapel. An act of sale by Jean de Châtillon, Count of Périgord, dated 31 August 1450 indicates that the church Saint-Martin and the chapel Notre-Dame de Pitié du pont are included within the limits of the seigneury of Coulaures sold to Pierre de Duret.
