About

The former Troglodytic Church Sainte-Croix is a building located in Ceyssac, France.

Location: The church is located in the territory of the commune of Ceyssac, in the department of Haute-Loire, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Description: The church was built in the 12th century and has the peculiarity of being leaned on natural rock. It is a small church with a single nave whose access is through a large narthex, with a small chapel at each end and ended with an apse. Saint-Antoine Chapel (north side) was rebuilt in 1732. The western façade features a full-cindered portal with coloured appliances, whose fallout is supported by carved capitals and two fine columns. Upstairs, the bay was enlarged in modern times. The revamped arcade bell tower is in retreat. The interior is vaulted in a cradle. The lateral walls of the nave are animated by blind arches resting on sculpted capitals in the western part, ground and square capitals in the eastern part. This church was assigned to worship until 1873.
