chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Grâces de Salzuit
Notre-Dame-des-Grâces Chapel is a chapel located in the commune of Salzuit (France).
Location: The chapel is located on the edge of the RN 102, on the town of Salzuit in the department of Haute-Loire, in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
History: The chapel, probably built before the 15th century, has two characteristics of interest: a plan approaching the cruciform shape and a simple exterior architecture, as well as remnants of mural paintings. According to some assumptions, the present nave could be the extension of the early chapel, dating from the 15th century. At the cross of the transept is a small bell with a wrought iron belfry. The entrance of this second span is marked by a third-point arch with chamfer. In 1625 significant renovations were carried out inside the chapel, including murals.
Protection: The Notre-Dame-des-Grâces chapel is listed as historical monuments by order of 20 February 1980. The carved group of the Virgin of Pitié, deposited since 1984 at the Presbytery of Salzuit, has been classified as an object since 1961.
