beffroi de Dreux
The belfry of Dreux is a monument of the early 16th century located in Dreux, sub-prefecture of the French department of Eure-et-Loir, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Former town hall, the building was built from 1512 to 1537 by three successive architects: Pierre Chéron (1512) and Jean des Moulins (1516) succeeded from 1520 to 1537 the young Clément Métezeau. Although completed in the first decades of the 16th century, during the reign of Francis I, the monument remains one of the major examples of Louis XII-style civil architecture as well as a witness to the restored prosperity of the Dreux of the late 15th century, then renewing a previously neglected municipal heritage.
True symbol of the city, the Belfry of Dreux is the only monument of this type in Eure-et-Loir. The building is classified as historical monuments by the list of 1840.
