chapelle Saint-Jean d'Amboise
The chapel Saint-Jean is a religious building dedicated to Catholic worship located in the French commune of Amboise, in the department of Indre-et-Loire, in the Centre-Val de Loire region.
Location: The chapel is located in the eastern part of Île d'Or, which divides the Loire bed, upstream of the Marshal-Leclerc bridge. It is located at an altitude of 57 m, or 5 m above the average level of the river.
Commanderie Saint-Jean d'Amboise The chapel is the only vestige of a monastery of the order of Saint John of Jerusalem built by knights of this order around 1175. Other buildings, to the north and south, were attached to this chapel. It was classified as French historical monuments in 1938.
The chapel consists of a unique nave with three spans that prolongs a choir finished with a flat bedside lighted by a triplet. It measures 17.50 × 6.05 m.
