About

The Gallo-Roman Theatre of Areines is a building of ancient performances combining some of the characteristics of an amphitheatre and a theatre, located in the French commune of Areines, in the department of Loir-et-Cher. Not far from the Loir, on a site that contains other ancient monuments, thermals, fanum, perhaps a necropolis with incineration, the theatre can accommodate more than 2,000 people is seen as one of the elements of a set intended to gather the surrounding population, although the motives for these gatherings remain to be specified. The remains of this theatre, which are buried at a shallow depth, are listed as a historical monument in 1988.
