Notre Dame de Corneville Abbey is a former Augustine abbey located in Corneville-sur-Risle, Eure, formerly in the diocese of Rouen. The abbey (vestiges) is partially protected as historical monuments.
Foundation: Notre-Dame Abbey was founded in 1180 on the basis of a priory donated by Gilbert, seigneur of Corneville, to welcome the monks of Saint-Vincent-aux-Bois in 1143, nephew of Galéran IV de Meulan. The church was consecrated by the Archbishop of Rouen Hugues on September 3, 1147.
History: The abbey was ravaged by a fire on August 8, 1287. " Poverty perseveres for a long time. " On 17 March 1659, the arrival of the Reformed Canons of the Congregation of France marked the beginning of the reconstruction and the return to discipline. It is the only genovéfaine abbey in Normandy. Archaeological excavations carried out in 1985 indicate that contemporary and abbey parish churches (transe and bedside, missing) were shared between parishioners and abbots.
