The church is the former parish church of Beaulieu which was built in the Port-Haut district in the second half of the 12th century at the request of the inhabitants. Until its construction, the inhabitants of the village depended on the parish of Sioniac. The church is then dedicated to the Virgin. She has to suffer the disasters of the Hundred Years War. The English occupied Beaulieu in 1341. After the war, the church must be strengthened. It was restored in 1474 and two side chapels were added to strengthen the nave, one dedicated to Saint Barbe, patron saint of navigators. A comb bell tower is built above the western facade of the church. At the Revolution, the monks had to abandon the abbey of Saint-Pierre de Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne. After the Concordat of 1801, the abbey church became the parish church. Our Lady Church was abandoned and sold as a national property...
