Saint-Joseph-aux-Bassots Chapel is a chapel, protected from historical monuments, located in the territory of the commune of Villers-le-Lac, in the French department of Doubs. The chapel of the Bassots is undoubtedly the most remarkable among the many chapels erected near the Swiss border at the time of the Counter-Reform.
Certified by an act signed by Claude Binétrouy les Veuves and Isabelle du Corral del Pignero, the construction of the chapel was decided in 1682 and was completed around 1685-1690. The bell tower is 1703. The chapel was listed as historical monuments in 1979.
The chapel illustrates the pure franco-comtois style with its dome-shaped bell tower overlooking the porch. Although of a very sober exterior, it contains a very rich furniture, mainly of origin. Oriented northeast, the chapel, whose ceiling is decorated, is uniquely rectangular nave and supports a triumphal arch supported by Tuscan pilasters.
