About

The Gustave-Moreau Museum is a national museum located at 14, rue Catherine-de-La Rochefoucauld, in Paris 9th, in the former workshop of the symbolist painter Gustave Moreau (1826-1898), left by the artist to the French state in 1897 for the preservation and presentation of his work. The museum maintains a total of about 14,000 works. Most of his studio floor is on display there, about 850 of his paintings or cardboards, 350 of his watercolours, more than 13,000 drawings and layers, 15 wax sculptures.

After restoration, the painter's apartment was opened to the public in 1991, and his reception room, restored in 2003, was also visitable. The museum was renovated and reopened in 2015 after a year of work, including the restoration of the ground floor in its original state, the creation of reserves and a graphic art firm. It is under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, more specifically exercised by the French Museums Department.
