chapelle Notre-Dame de l'Ortial
The Notre-Dame de l'Ortial Chapel is a Catholic chapel located in Rots, France.
Location: The chapel is located in the French department of Calvados, in the commune of Rots, one kilometer from the parish church, and in the valley of the Mue, in a place formerly called fief Simeon.
History: A chapel already existed in the 12th century because some fragments of stones of use with geometric Romanesque decorations are included in the walls to the west. It is attested in the written sources from 1291 onwards. The name is fixed in the 19th century. The chapel was not linked to a manor but is a rare example of a "annex chapel of a mother church" from an ancient religious mesh of the parish territory. The current chapel was built at the end of the 13th or early 14th century. It belonged like the village of Rots to the abbey of Saint-Ouen de Rouen. The patronage of the church belonged to the abbey of the Men of Caen. The present population called him "Saint-Siméon Chapel" and a mass was said there at the feast of the Trinity. From the 19th and until 1937 the building served as a burial place for the family owner of a nearby mansion. L...
