The chapel Madame is a funeral chapel, located in Mailly-Maillet, in the department of the Somme, not far from Albert.
History: In 1753 the Marquis de Mailly raised this chapel in memory of Antoinette Cadot de Sebeville, his deceased young wife. In the crypt rest the remains of John III of Mailly, ascendant of Empress Elizabeth of Wittelsbach known as Sissi. The building was looted during World War II. The chapel is protected as historical monuments: classification by decree of 5 June 1973. The building was restored at the end of the 20th century.
Characteristics: The chapel is located on the edge of the old enclosure of the convent of Cordeliers founded in the 15th century, not far from the church. The construction was entrusted to architects Franque and Christophle. It is built of brick and stone on an octagonal plane. The roof was surmounted by a missing lantern that was redone. Above the entrance gate, the coats of arms of the House of Mailly were carved. In an oval vaulted dome room, decorated with pilasters of ionic style, is the tomb of the Marquise, carved by Jean-Baptiste Dupuis. The front door was originally...
