About

The Calvary with three crosses is a calvary located in France on the commune of Allègre, in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

Location: Le Calvaire is located in the French department of Haute-Loire, on the commune of Allègre, in the former administrative region of Auvergne.

History: The 13th century Calvary consists of three distinct crosses and hosted a religious ceremony. The central cross exhibits a rough representation of Christ, with a small, regular and symmetrical folded shroud. At the feet of Christ, there is a head of death surrounded by crossed bones.

Description: At the back of this cross, a heart pierced with a cross is surrounded by a crown of thorns. Croisillons are cylindrical in shape, while the eastern drum is hexagonal. The base, in the shape of a truncated pyramid with downed angles, carries coats of arms erased on two of its faces. The cross on the left of Christ presents a drum identical to that of the first, with intertwined ropes and a date erased at the base (probably 1278). The cross on the right is new and has the same barrel and base as the first.
