About

The Murat Museum is a museum located in the municipality of Labastide-Murat in the Lot, France, dedicated to the Marshal of Empire and king of Naples Joachim Murat (1767-1815), as well as to his family. Typical House of Quercy, it is "one of the few native houses of a Marshal of France who has remained in the state for 200 years". Joachim Murat was born in this house where his parents held a hostel.

Opened to the public because property of the Lot department following a legacy of its descendants, the museum presents rooms, furniture, paintings and objects. Historian Jean Tulard, one of the best specialists of Napoleon I and the Napoleonic era, author of a biography of Joachim Murat, presided over the acquisition of the museum's collections via "Association des Amis du Musée Murat". The Murat Museum is labeled "Maisons des Illustres".

The museum is open during the summer period from July 16 to August 31, 2025. After a period of closure linked to Coronavirus and works, the museum now welcomes the public.
