abbaye de Saint-Hippolyte
The abbey of Saint-Hippolyte was built in the commune of Combertault in Côte-d'Or. His founding charter was signed in 1030 by Robert dit le Pieux. It was reduced to priory from 1120. Today, only the choir of the abbey still exists and forms the present church of the commune.
Genesis: It is plausible that Bishop Geoffroy of Chalon (1016 to 1033) owned land in the locality of Combertault, whether he was even probably the seigneur. He gave and signed a charter by which he founded and provided for regular canons, an abbey under the name of Saint Hippolyte.
Confirmation Act: In the archives, this charter of foundation is not found, on the other hand an act confirms the foundation and the endowment for said abbey. It is dated September 23, 1030 (9th of October's calendials in the 43rd year of the reign of His Excellency King Robert, and the 4th year of Henry, son of the said King), written at the castle of Argilly, near Beaune. This document written in Latin is signed by King Robert said the Pious, with the agreement of Queen Constance and their son Henri.
