About

The castle Gaillard or Gaillard (castrum Galliardi/Gallardi), which is sometimes found in the form of Château-Gaillard, is a castle, from the very beginning of the 14th century, located in the former county of Geneva and which was dismantled in the 16th century. He stood above the village of Gaillard, today in the department of Haute-Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. His proximity to the city of Geneva made him play a major strategic role, according to Swiss archaeologist Louis Blondel.
