cimetière du bois d'Upton
Upton Wood Cemetery is a British military cemetery in the French village of Hendecourt-lès-Cagnicourt (Pas-de-Calais) during the First World War. The cemetery is located on the ground 1,700 m north of the centre of the village (Eglise Saint-Léger) and is accessible by a 700 m country road. It was designed by George Goldsmith.
Rectangular, it is surrounded by a brick wall. The entrance consists of a square building with a tent roof and an open arched gate. A cross of sacrifice dominates the site.
The cemetery is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. 217 Canadians (including 8 unidentified) and 10 British (including 1 unidentified) are buried there. A Canadian soldier is honoured by a special memorial because his grave could no longer be located.
