About

The abbey of Saint-Pierre de Psalmody, also spelled Psalmodi or Psalmodie, is a former Benedictine abbey whose ruins are located in the territory of the commune of Saint-Laurent-d'Aigouze in the French department of Gard and the Occitanie region. This abbey was extremely influential in the Middle Ages. Its history is known to us by its cartular, reconstituted in the 18th century by Noël Loys, a lawman of Nîmes.

The oldest of these charters, presented by the monks as dating back to the end of the eighth century, are now recognized as false. The abbey, probably founded in the 7th century, developed thanks to donations until it enjoyed a considerable heritage throughout the South of today's France.
