abbaye du Perray-aux-Nonnains
The abbey of Perray-aux-Nonnais (also known as the abbey of Notre-Dame du Perray-aux-Nonnais) is a former Benedictine and then Cistercian abbey, located in the commune of Écouflant, northeast of Angers. The monastery was built in 1180 by the will of the lord of Sablé, Robert IV of Sablé, and took the name of "Our Lady for Benedictines". In 1247, after many vicissitudes, the Benedictines left the place to nuns and the abbey changed religious order for the Cistercian abbesses, of the order of Cîteaux Abbey in Anjou, diocese of Angers in the Baugeois.
