Gallo-Roman amphitheatre
amphithéâtre de Grand
The Grand Amphitheatre is an amphitheatre of the Gallo-Roman period, located in Grand, in the current French department of Vosges. It is the eighth largest amphitheater in the Roman world. It is the subject of archaeological studies within the framework of the Grand Archaeological Site.
Built at the end of the 1st century AD, it could accommodate approximately 20,000 spectators, a capacity that reflected the importance of the ancient city of Grand, in the city of the Leuques. It is classified as semi-amphitheatres by Jean-Claude Golvin.
