About

The aqueduct of Maintenon is an unfinished work of art, located on the estate of the castle of Maintenon, crossing the valley of the Eure. It is part of the Canal de l'Eure (aqueduct from Pontgouin to Versailles) initiated by Louis XIV in order to supply the Château de Versailles with water. Beginning in 1686, the work was abandoned in 1689 due to the Kingdom's entry into war against the Augsburg League.

The aqueduct has been classified as historic monuments since 1875. Both funnels have been listed as historic monuments since 19 March 1934.
