Arena is a former museum dedicated to the world of dunes and a centre for environmental interpretation, located in Écault in northern France.
History: Arena opened in Écault in 2001. The cost of its creation by the municipality is 11 million francs (about 1.7 million euros). In 2010, the site welcomed 4,838 visitors. In 2014, this number rose to 2,585 visitors, a decrease of 47%. The economic difficulties forced the centre to close for several weeks during the summer of 2015. In 2018, the centre finally closes its doors and now hosts the seat of the marine natural park of the Picard estuaries and the Opale Sea
Location: Arena is located in Écault (hamel dependent on the commune of Saint-Étienne-au-Mont), in the department of Pas-de-Calais, about 10 km south of Boulogne-sur-Mer. The centre is located on the Côte d'Opale, on the edge of the Manche, in the heart of the dunes of Écault, a protected natural site, and close to the Écault forest and the Écault beach.
