Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Monflières

History: The chapel of Monflières was built around 1160 after the apparition to a shepherd of the image of the Blessed Virgin in an elm. This image is recognized miraculously, the chapel is enlarged three times over the centuries. Every August 15, the day of the Assumption, a pilgrimage took place in the chapel. In 1778, Queen Marie-Antoinette offered the Virgin of Monflières a sheet of cloth in gratitude for the birth of her daughter Marie-Thérèse. According to oral tradition, the modist Rose Bertin, native of Abbeville, knowing the supposed virtues of the Virgin of Monflières, would have persuaded the queen to invoke her so that she would allow her to have a child. The last time the apparition took place was shot down in 1965 as a security measure. It was 7 metres in circumference and 30 metres in height. In 2020, the chapel was listed as the Historic Monuments.
