Church building
basilique Notre-Dame de Pontmain
The Basilica Notre-Dame de Pontmain also known as the Basilica Notre-Dame de l'Espérance de Pontmain is a shrine built at the end of the 19th century in Pontmain, on the site of the Marian apparition of Pontmain on January 17, 1871, in order to welcome the many pilgrims who mobilized in 1871. Consecrated in 1900, it was elevated to the rank of minor basilica in 1905. This diocesan pilgrimage basilica should not be confused with the church of Saint-Simon-et-Saint-Jude, which has always retained its parish function.
The church Saint-Simon-et-Saint-Jude is, with the restructuring of the parishes, one of the seven bell towers of the parish Notre-Dame-de-Pontmain. Built in granite in the neo-Gothic style, it features large coloured windows, made in several countrysides from the 19th to the 20th century. The two towers of the facade house a carillon of 39 bells.
