About

The Saint-Amable Basilica in Riom is the largest clerical building in Auvergne after the Cathedral of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assumption in Clermont-Ferrand. Located in Riom, it has been a minor basilica since 1912, when the bishop of Clermont asked Pope Pius X for his elevation. Pius X signed up to this request with a brief on 7 March 1912.

Église Saint-Amable de Riom

It is one of the three basilicas of the diocese of Clermont with the Basilica of Notre-Dame-du-Port in Clermont-Ferrand and the Basilica of Notre-Dame d'Orcival in Orcival. Modified over the course of history, it was largely built in the 12th and 13th centuries. Especially known for the saint to whom it was dedicated, the Basilica Saint-Amable was a place of pilgrimage until the beginning of the twentieth century.
