camp celtique de la Bure
The Celtic camp of La Bure, located in Lorraine, France, is one of the many fortified height sites bordering the Haute-Meurthe valley. The plateau, now under forest cover, is shared between the commune of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges and that of Hurbache, at the western end of the Ormont massif. This site, known by 23 years of archaeological investigations from 1964 to 1986, has been classified as historical monuments since 6 August 1982.
The perimeter of the slopes and northeast approaches, at the so-called "Tête du Villé" and "Rein de Champ Cote", has been listed as historical monuments since 5 April 1993. This perched, spur-barred habitat, fortified in the east, is situated on a rocky sandstone promontory overlooking the Meurthe valley of more than 200 metres. It is an intensely occupied site in the 2nd and 1st centuries BC, and more precisely at the end of the second age of Gaulish iron and independence, as well as during almost the entire Roman period from the 2nd to the 4th century.
