About

Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption Cathedral in Montauban is a Catholic religious building located in Montauban, the capital of the French department of Tarn-et-Garonne in the Occitan region. It is the main church of the diocese of Montauban, created in 1317, abolished in 1790 and restored in 1822, suffragan of the Archdiocese of Toulouse. It is a church of recent construction (1692-1739), due to Montauban's role as a bastion of French Calvinism from the 1560s until 1629, which led to the disappearance of the first cathedral, Saint-Théodard. It has been classified as historical monuments since 9 August 1906.
