About

Notre-Dame-de-la-Sède Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral located in Saint-Lizier, Ariège. It must not be confused with the Cathedral of Saint-Lizier located in the same city, and which also has the title of cathedral. Saint-Lizier, currently sparsely populated, was from the fourth to the nineteenth century the seat of the bishopric of Couserans.

The diocese was abolished by the concordat of 1801. Today it is an old cathedral, no longer hosting religious ceremonies and being an integral part of the departmental museum of the Palace of Bishops of Saint-Lizier. By order of 18 July 1994, the cathedral is classified as historical monuments.
