About

The chapel of the Bourbons is an architectural project of Louis XIV and Jean-Baptiste Colbert which was never realized: it consisted of the construction at the end of the Basilica of Saint-Denis of a chapel intended to house the burials of the kings of the House of Bourbon. We sometimes also speak of the Bourbon rotunda, by analogy with the Valois rotunda, but the name is not exact because it was not necessarily a circular building inside and outside. A chapel of the Bourbons was built in the 19th century. It contains cenotaphs and ballot boxes containing remains of the royal family.
