About

The castle of Meung-sur-Loire is a former fortified residence located in Meung-sur-Loire, in the Loiret department and the Centre-Val de Loire region, France. The castle of Meung-sur-Loire, a listed historical monument of the Loiret, is one of the oldest and largest castles in the Loire Valley: eight centuries of authentic history, 7 hectares of park in the city centre, and a unique experience where François Villon's prison is next to the Chevaliers' path in the trees and the Dragon's Antre in the underground. It was built from the 12th century and served in turn as a residence for the bishops of Orléans and as a prison, of which François Villon was the most famous captive.

The castle and its park have been listed as historical monuments since 1988. The building is located in the perimeter of the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
