château de Montalègre
The Château de Montalègre is a French medieval castle located in the Sorgues valley in Versols-et-Lapeyre, in the department of Aveyron.
History: The seigneury of Montalègre has been attested since 1268, but the first known possessors seem to be in the sixteenth century a branch of the family of the Counts of Rodez who bore the name: Bernard de Rodez, seigneur of Montalègre, son of Briguier de Rodez and Béatrix de Roquefeuil de Versols, who may have brought him this land. He married Catherine de Ricard, daughter ofHugues and Catherine de Montjaux, of whom he had at least one son and three daughters. Jeanne de Rodez, daughter heir of Guillaume, seigneur of Montalègre (died 1557) and Jeanne de La Jugie, brought Montalègre by her marriage on 13 Aug. 1553 with Magdalon de Corneillan, puisne son of Jean, Viscount of Corneillan and Florette de Montesquiou. Then Marcilhac's family and Yzarn de Valady's family were the successive owners. The castle was listed as historical monuments on 17 July 1978 for its facades and roofs. Recently, the castle was converted into a guest house.
