Castle ruin
château de Penne
The castle of Penne is a castle of the 12th century, today ruined, whose remains stand on the French commune of Penne in the department of Tarn in Occitanie region. The castle rose from the Merovingian era. His exceptional situation allowed him to play a leading role in the history of Quercy.
During the Albige Crusade, he was at stake in bloody wars between the seigneur of Penne, joined to the Cathar heresy and the supporters of Simon IV de Montfort. Later, during the Hundred Years' War, English and roadmen took the fortress in turn. Falling in ruins for 450 years, it is being restored.
The ruins of the castle of Penne have been classified as historical monument.
