About

The castle of Rauzan is located in the French commune of the same name, in the department of Gironde. Built by Jean Sans Terre, Duke of Normandy (1199-1204), Duke of Guyenne (1199-1216) and King of England from 1199 to 1216, this castle was built on a rock occupied from ancient times. A witness of the Hundred Years' War, the castle of Rauzan was taken twice by the French, including Bertrand Du Guesclin in 1377.

Ranked a historic monument by the list of 1862, it only reborn in the minds from the 1970s when the commune of Rauzan, owner since 1900, and some enthusiasts of medieval architecture, began work of clearing and restoration. In 1993, the enclosure wall of the lower courtyard was listed as historical monuments.
