Thuillières Castle is a castle in the municipality of Thuillières, west of the Vosges department in Lorraine.
History: At the foot of the village there was a medieval castle built by Simon de Thuillières in 1328. At the beginning of the eighteenth century, this castle belonged to the Marquis Marc de Beauvau-Craon, governor and great squire of Lorraine, but the building was no longer habitable. The Marquis, which was covered with debts, saw his property seized and it was the architect Germain Boffrand who bought it back in 1722 for 10,000 pounds.
Germain Boffrand wanted to have a residence in Lorraine where he often stayed for his many sites of the time (the castle of Haroué, the cathedral of Nancy, the hotel of the Mint of Nancy, the castle of the Favorite...). He decided to shave the old feudal castle and use its materials to build the new castle between 1722 and 1725. It particularly treats the facade overlooking the gardens. But Germain Boffrand in permanent conflict with the inhabitants of the village and the local lords, and after the death of his patron, Duke Léopold I in 1729, finally sold his property in 1736!
