The Château de Vauvenargues is a Provençal castle-bastide-mas built from the 13th century, with 14th century corner towers and a 14th century fortified enclosure, rebuilt in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is located in the commune of Vauvenargues (at the foot of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, 15 km east of Aix-en-Provence) in Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. He was one of the private residences of the painter Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) from 1958 when he disappeared in 1973, where the artist was buried. The castle is inscribed with its interior decoration to historical monuments since 15 January 1929.
