château des Rudel
The Rudel Castle is one of the few vestiges of the medieval era to have been preserved during the building of the citadel of Blaye in the seventeenth century. Today reduced to the state of ruins, this castle fort dates mainly from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Designed to protect Blaye from possible enemy incursions, it is built on a rocky spur that dominates the Gironde estuary by almost 30 metres.
