The château du Grand-Besse, located in the commune of Saint-Maur (Cher), was part of the Bourbonnais, in an enclave in Berry, between Châteaumeillant and Culan, which probably explains its location near the boundary of the two provinces. To the south of the castle passed a Roman path which is partly confused with the path of Saint Christophe, and would be that of Châteaumeillant to Neris.
